Who We Are

Hamdi Frères Group of companies (HF Group, Tunisia) started in 1976 with one SME, Les Carrières du Sud, sarl (French for Southern Quarries) in Gabès, Tunisia. It quickly developed into a full-fledged industrial operation, serving customers in the entire southern region of Tunisia. In the first two years it operated only one 10-ton dump truck, a few light tools, and it employed no more than 5 workers at a time. Its first crusher was purchased and installed at Mancef site, at midpoint between Gabès and El-Hamma, in 1978 (Richier Jaw Crusher), for the purpose of supplying pure limestone to the local chemical industry.

The next important development took place in 1984 when a larger crushing plant was put in operation through an innovative lease-to-own transaction approved by Tunisie-Leasing, the pioneer financial leasing company in Tunisia. By then, HF became a medium size enterprise with one factory, two quarries, a small number of dump trucks, a couple of front loaders, and a variety of accessory equipment.

Activities continued apace for six years. In 1990, the company purchased a new and larger crushing plant. In mid-1992, this second plant was inaugurated at the Dissa site, north of Gabès.

In 1997, the company consolidated ownership and absorbed the Carrière 2000 affiliated unit. Since then, Les Carrières du Sud unit of Hamdi Freres Group has focused its production activities on clean limestone, and construction aggregates. As shown in What’s New Section, HF Group has significantly expanded its operations since 1997, particularly since 2005. Now HF Group is the largest producer in southern Tunisia of gravel, silica sand. Since 2006, Minéraux Broyés du Sud (MBS), a HF company has been producing pure fine-ground limestone for the chemical industry. IHF Group also operates a industrial unit of petroleum tank fabrication, steel construction, and industrial/mechanical services (G2i, Inc.).
